"If you don't come away from a science lecture full of awe and wonder at how great God is…then you haven't been given enough information." - Dr. Randy Guliuzza
My favorite children,
A few years ago, I saw a presentation by Dr. Randy Guliuzza. He opened his presentation with the above quote, then shared some amazing details on what it takes for a woman to get pregnant and what needs to happen for a baby to grow.
Spoiler alert - many things have to go just right for a pregnancy to begin. And yes, our bodies are designed for it, but still, it is utterly incredible, nothing short of miraculous.
And it doesn't end there. I used to have this concept that the mother grows the baby. But that's not really accurate. It turns out the baby is in charge of the whole thing, triggering the mother's body to give the baby what she needs to grow. Again, our bodies are designed for this, but again, the complexity, the specificity, the details, if you see them, are mind-blowing.
When I heard Dr. Guliuzza explain all this, I was amazed and thankful to God. He showed me how wonderful and complex our bodies are and how much God cares about us. I left Dr. Guliuzza's presentation full of awe and wonder at how great God is, just like he said, and realized all the anatomy and biology classes I'd had before were lacking. Incomplete.
Kids, this is a two-part letter. In the second part, I will take this idea I got from Dr. Guliuzza and apply it to the Gospel message of Jesus. You won't want to miss this.
Love,
Dad
