big lies hurt big time - but they can be stopped

My children,

When I was young, I knew a girl who bought a lie. A big lie. As a result, teachers, counselors, and parents in the community held meetings and seminars to learn about the lie and teach us kids about the lie so that we wouldn't also fall for the lie.

You see, it was well-known that this particular lie could be contagious. Once one person believes it and others see how the believer's life is changed, others are susceptible to wanting similar attention, even if they don't consciously realize it.

The community pulled together to help this girl see reality and survive. I believe this reaction by the community prevented others from adopting the same lie. I would describe what parents, counselors, teachers, doctors, and coaches (yes, they all played a part) did as life-affirming, reality-affirming, and allies of truth. Lives were saved.
